The language of 'virus infection' is complex. Problems come in many disguises....

What's a hoax?

How about a Trojan?

Watch out for worms

Spam & email wizard

Spam and some serious ill effects

Am I infected?

Botnets & how to spot them

Identity fraud

Checking the origin of some email

Key Logging

Deleting date

Virus scan for free

The web is subject to periodic attacks  and fixes are freely available on the net.

Jan 2004 MyDoom.A, masquerades as an e-mail error message from a "Mail Administrator" and other official-looking addresses that contains a file attachment. If a user clicks on the seemingly benign attachment, it infects their computers. The attachment starts  a program capable of taking over the victim's computer to scour the Internet for vulnerable machines.

All the major suppliers of anti-virus software let you download a fix for free. This enlightened view is bases not only on commercial reality because they hope you will buy a full copy, but they also recognise the benefit of ‘herd immunity’. If computer can be immunised very quickly. a problem cannot spread. By making the fixes available these companies, and you as a responsible user, are protecting their wider community.
